Thomas Levin �an associate professor of German intellectual history, media and cultural theory at Princeton University �will be a visiting faculty member in the UCLA Department of Architecture and Urban Design for winter quarter. His recent work on questions of aesthetics, technology and sound have grown out of his research on metronomes, gramophones and the prehistory of acoustic inscription as well as his work as associate editor of The Musical Quarterly. He was curator of "CTR: Rhetorics of Surveillance from Bentham to Big Brother," a major exhibition at the Zentrum fŸr Kunst und Medientechnologie (ZKM), Karlsruhe, Germany. He is the author of "Resistance to Cinema: Reading German Film Theory" (Princeton University Press, forthcoming), among other publications.
