We’ll start as usual at 7 pm with open Q&A. This is free training for all levels, so bring your questions (and a sample file if you wish) and don’t be shy. Our main presentation for the evening will begin at 8 pm: designer Tamir Barelia will demonstrate the use of the Leica Disto Laser Distancemeter measuring tool with Archicad to create as-built drawings much faster and more accurately than ever before. Many of you will remember Tamir, who hosted the huge user group meeting unveiling Archicad 10 in May at his downtown studio loft. The Disto is a hand-held measuring device that instantly records very accurate dimensional information and can transmit it wirelessly to a computer using Bluetooth. Tamir has found that he can take a laptop and the Disto into the field, and working solo or with a partner, create an as-built model in a fraction of the time with much more accuracy. We’ll see him demo it live, which should be fascinating. In addition, Tamir has been developing a very robust Archicad template system for XLArt, the design-build firm that employs him. Inspired by the presentation by Van Hohman in June, and working with BCG consultants and on his own, he has gotten the XLArt team working very efficiently in the short time since they implemented the software this spring. Tamir will create a small sample file to demonstrate key concepts in their template, and show some real projects from their office as well. I particularly like his method for setting up remodels since it allows a designer to show the client “before and after” instantly at any time while “walking through” the house.
