This exhibition features photographs, drawings and models designed and fabricated
at UCLA by AUD students who participated in the traveling studio, "Extreme
Porosity," a
traveling studio led by faculty member David Erdman. The studio traveled to Istanbul
Turkey examining mosques that reflect 15th and 16th century innovations in the
use of minimal surfaces where extreme lightness, porosity and geometry are evidenced.
Students explored massing, structural articulation, aperture formation and mood
at Hagia Sophia Museum, Suleymaniye Complex, Selimiye Mosque (Edirne), Rustem
Pasa Mosque (among others) where analysis and observations were utilized in the
development of their projects for the studio. Exhibit opens February 27th
and closes March 24th.

This exhibition features drawings and 3-D prints of recent research work created
by UCLA Department of Architecture professor Dagmar Richter principal of DR_D
based in Los Angeles and Berlin. The DR_D organization is an experimental design
enterprise closely linking research with applied concrete operations in contemporary
culture through a continuous effort to redefine spatial performance criteria
in response to changing cultural conditions, political critique and theoretical
discourse. Exhibit closes March 17th. |
