exhibition: 'Quiet Time'

info: 310-453-3711; office@18thstreet.org
detail: Exhibit reception. An exhibition by Barbara Drucker, Diane Katsiaficas, Robin McCauley and Masako Takahashi in which domestic materials and everyday objects are used to reconsider prevailing notions of time, creative process, feminism and visual art. The subject is time. The question is what do we do with our time? The artworks in this exhibition are thoughtful reflections upon that question. Don’t we all need time out? Doesn’t our society need quiet time to reflect on what’s happening in the world today? The artwork in this exhibition is the result of intuitive reflection and quiet time. The chosen works are filled with symbolic meaning, intuitive thinking, life experiences and cultural references. Time is the subject (as in marking time, seasonal time, sacred time) and time is referred to concretely (as in actual time needed to create the work using repetitive, almost ritualistic actions). Using domestic materials and everyday objects the works ask the viewer to reconsider prevailing notions of time, creative process, feminism and visual art. Through April 8th.
