lecture: 'Zhang Huan: Recent Work'
Otis College of Art and
Design (9045 Lincoln Boulevard; LA)
info: 310-665-6867; otisinfo@otis.edu
detail: At the Ahmanson Hall. Zhang Huan's subversive blend of Eastern
and Western strategies in performance, sculpture, video, and photography
has made him one of China's most renowned and controversial contemporary
artists. Often using his own naked body as a metaphoric centerpiece and
the primary medium, he employs stark movements and an array of traditional
and alternative materials from the natural and industrial worlds to express
the precarious position humans occupy in our global system. This lecture
is a rare opportunity to hear him articulate the meanings and ramifications
of his raw, lyrical, and sometimes difficult output.
