detail: Mary Jane Jacob is Professor of Sculpture at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an independent curator. She has created over 50 exhibitions and commissioned over 100 new artists’ projects as chief curator at MCA/Chicago and MoCA/Los Angeles, and as a consulting curator for Fabric Workshop and Museum/Philadelphia. She has also created such public projects as “Places with a Past” (Spoleto Festival USA in Charleston, 1991), “Culture in Action,” (Chicago, 1993), “Points of Entry” (Pittsburgh, 1996), “Conversations at The Castle” (Atlanta, 1996), and since 2001 the Spoleto Festival’s annual “Evoking History” program. Her latest book, Buddha Mind in Contemporary Art, elucidates the common ground between the meditative, creative, and perceiving mind. Lecture is free, reservations required as space is limited.
