Working since the early 1990s, Cuban artist Carlos Garaicoa (b. 1967) has built an impressive body of work that provides an understanding of Cuba’s politics and ideologies and the role of modernist architecture played in that pursuit. Using architectural models, renderings, drawings, video, and photographs, Garaicoa creates installations that articulate the failure, despair, and longing left in the wake of failed social and architectural programs. Organized by MOCA Associate Curator Alma Ruiz, this exhibition is the artist's first U.S. museum survey and features seven projects including work from 2002-2004 and five new works created specially for the exhibition. Through June 12th.
